I have two selections for tomorrow’s racing.
COCONUT SPLASH (13.05 Wincanton, 1pt win @5/2)
I was taken with the performance of COCONUT SPLASH on chasing debut at Chepstow on seasonal bow, where he finished a creditable third. His form over hurdles prior to going over fences was very good and there’s every reason to suggest he’ll have come on bundles for his latest outing. He jumped and travelled effectively and looked to be mounting a serious challenge until making a fiddly mistake which proved crucial.
To his credit, Evan Williams’ five-year-old rallied late in the day and the assessor has left his handicap mark unaltered. The front two have let the form down since, but they were turned out quickly next time, so both in turn had valid excuses. However, the fifth-placed horse, Vado Forte, hacked up recently from a mark 128 and that bodes well for Coconut Splash, who looks capable of exploiting his current mark, whilst his shrewd connections leave no stone unturned when it comes to their runners in this sphere.
HERE COMES MCCOY (13.35 Wincanton, 1pt win @7/2)
With Olly Murphy’s stable in fine fettle, there’s a good chance HERE COMES MCCOY can double his tally over timber. He was impressive in a Warwick bumper on debut and did well to win stylishly over hurdles last time despite making a mistake two out. I think he’s a very smart horse and, with more improvement to come, he’s the standout selection in the race.
