A good day yesterday as Double Shuffle returned an 8/1 winner and Misty Whisky ran an excellent race to finish second for each-way returns at 12/1. Here are today’s three selections
MARTINHAL (13.40 Exeter, 1pt win @10/3)
An intriguing Maiden Hurdle with the vote in favour of MARTINHAL. He’s shown good form to finish fourth in both hurdle starts this term and will appreciate the drop back to two-miles on soft ground. The form of his last two runs in defeat have been advertised with plenty of subsequent winners and placed runners coming out of the race since. It’s hard to envisage David Pipe’s five-year-old not being involved in the finish having created a deep impression on debut and looks the value at the morning odds.
POTTERS VENTURE (14.10 Exeter, 0.5pts each-way @12/1)
The form of Philip Hobbs has to be a concern and no doubt Bear Ghylls will take plenty of beating, but POTTERS VENTURE looks totally overpriced. He made all to score over hurdles when last seen and the form has a good look to it given the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh has all won subsequently. Understandably, his fitness has to be taken on trust, but his opening mark looks fair and at the odds, he’s the each-way angle in the race.
ECLAIR SURF (14.40 Exeter, 1pt @13/8)
ECLAIR SURF is up 8Ib for smoothly getting off the mark over fences at Hereford last time, but is open to further progression over fences and I’d be very surprised if he couldn’t take higher rank in due course. I think his current mark looks well within his capabilities and he’s taken to double-up his tally for the campaign.
