Southwell Betting Tips: 22/02/2021 (Colossus Place 6)

I am back to preview tomorrow’s card at Southwell. I have created a syndicate over at Colossus if you wish to participate.

Leg 1: 13.15 - 'Off The Fence' On Handicap Chase

It’s only a matter of time before FAUSTINOVICK finally gets his head in front for connections. He has been runner-up the last two times and wouldn’t need to improve much to figure in today’s opener. CHECKITOUT was a little disappointing last time out but is eased in grade and should be thereabouts from a mark that is seemingly exploitable.

Leg 2: 13.45 - Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

QUOI DE NEUF was a very smart hurdler, who ran an excellent race on debut to finish second at Aintree in a stronger race than this when attempting to give the winner 3Ib. The winner boosted the form by claiming the Grade 3 Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase from a mark of 142 and, with that taken into consideration, Evan Williams’ charge must enter calculations from a mark of 131 being only 2Ib higher than when fourth in the 2019 Greatwood Hurdle. Also, FALCO BLITZ built on the promise of his chase debut when a very good second at Kempton when last seen and remains open to more improvement for Nicky Henderson.

Leg 3: 14.20 - Visit Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race)

This looks a good race for the grade and there’s plenty to like about SIR SHOLOKHOV who was a good third on debut at Newbury behind subsequent Grade 2 winner My Drogo and should improve plenty here. Of the remainder, ONLY THE BOLD has finished second in both outings for Evan Williams thus far and remains an interesting contender on return from a break.

Leg 4: 14.50 - Free Tips Daily On Mares' Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race)

FORTUNES OF MELODY was useful when trained in France having placed second in a Group 2 and is equally proven in the mud. He’s in excellent hands and should be hard to beat on debut in this company.

Leg 5: 15.20 - Download The At The Races App Handicap Hurdle

POPPA POUTINE could only finish sixth at Ascot when last in action but looked progressive beforehand and shouldn’t be discounted in today’s easier event representing owners who enjoyed a good winner on Sunday at Newbury. LINELEE KING was below-par when fourth on his penultimate outing but shaped encouragingly in a jumpers bumper last time and his useful claimer takes off 7Ib to help matters on return to this sphere.

Leg 6: 15.50 - Festival Tips At Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race)

NUMBERS MAN ran a race full of promise when fifth at Chepstow behind Soaring Glory and Bravemansgame on debut and will find today’s opposition easier. He is open to further progression on just his second career outing and looks solid material to reach the frame at the very least. SUBLIME HEIGHTS showed plenty of ability when second on debut 40 days ago and, and, with that experience to draw upon, he looks sure to be in the firing line.
