I have previewed tomorrow’s card at Southwell and have created a syndicate over at my other work, Colossus, which is attached at the bottom if you would like to join in and contribute.
Leg 1: 16.40 - Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Handicap
THREE C’S has struggled to get involved of late but has three wins from four starts at this track. He’s 7Ib lower than when last successful, so it would be no surprise to see him bounce back to form returned to the fibresand.
LIGHTNING ATTACK returned to form when second last time out and although he’s not the most consistent, he currently sits 15Ib below his last winning mark and has a chance of going one better.
Of the remainder, course-specialist BEST TAMAYUZ has won five times over track and trip and shaped encouragingly when fifth here 18 days ago. He’s down to a career-low mark and shouldn’t be discounted.
Verdict: THREE C’S, LIGHTNING ATTACK, BEST TAMAYUZ
Leg 2: 17.10 - Bombardier Novice Stakes
CARROTHERS comfortably justified favouritism when scoring over seven-furlongs here in December, and with a couple of next-time-out winners coming out of that race, he’s selected to double his tally for the campaign under Jamie Spencer.
His market rival, Discomatic, makes his fibresand debut and has a chance of filling the frame. He’ll need his market rival to underperform if he’s to come out on top, but looks the solid alternative in a weak event.
Leg 3: 17.40 - Betway Casino Handicap
VENTURA FLAME is only 3Ib above his last winning mark and ran well to an extent at Wolverhampton when last in action. He’s drawn nicely in stall four and shouldn’t be dismissed with the highly-capable Callum Rodriguez taking the reins.
VANDAD remains winless but has been given a chance by the handicapper and ought to build on his latest fifth from an unchanged mark.
Verdict: VENTURA FLAME, VANDAD
Leg 4: 18.10 - Betway Handicap
A tightly-knit handicap in which TAWNY PORT can gain an overdue success. He undoubtedly needs to produce a career-best in order to take this event but has the presence of the in-form Richard Kingscote in the saddle.
Coincidentally, Richard Fahey is doubly-represented with Gabriel The Devil and BRIAN THE SNAIL with preference for the latter. He has been in the form of his life since October, particularly at this level and he’s fancied to go close.
Verdict: TAWNY PORT, BRIAN THE SNAIL
Leg 5: 18.40 - Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap
It's hard to resist the allure of four-time C&D winner MULZIM, who was impressive here seven days ago when beating Duke Of Firenze by over a length. He’s been handed a 4Ib penalty as a result but Mike Murphy's charge is the one to beat on form.
At a wild price, STAKE ACCLAIM could run a big race for Dean Ivory. He’s not won since 2019, but is very well-handicapped on past form and, if taking to the surface, he’s certainly got the back-class to cause an upset.
Verdict: MULZIM, STAKE ACCLAIM
Leg 6: 19.10 - Bombardier 'March To Your Own Drum' Claiming Stakes
Mick Appleby looks to have found THRAVE an excellent opportunity to notch a third course win of the winter. He produced a good run in defeat when third over C&D last week and is the one to beat on the form available.
FINOAH is unreliable, but is more than capable of outclassing this field on his day. He’s 14Ib below his last winning mark and the presence of Richard Kingscote in the saddle makes him dangerous to dismiss.
Verdict: THRAVE, FINOAH
