Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – Grade 1, 2m87y
Fiddlerontheroof Backed Antepost at 8/1 EW
Fiddlerontheroof (154) has probably had the easiest of the graded wins amongst his rivals in terms of depth but he has done it very easily, if it comes up on the softer side ground wise, he will have a big chance. Beat Jeremys Flame (136) who disappointed next time out. Son of Camas (136) Calva D’Auge (139) won his next 2 races. Prior Sandown victory has produced 3 winners in Arrivederci (128), Daphne Du Clos (125) & Black Gerry. Versatile in that he has won from off the pace and from the front, was keen early on in his two 2nd places behind Thyme Hill & Edwardstone(142). He is a big horse who has settled and progressed for every race.
Asterion Forlonge 11/4 (3.9 on Exchange Taken)
Asterion Forlonge (153) has put in 2 strong performances especially at the Dublin Racing Festival when easily beating, Easywork (146) and Mt Leinster (142), has shown a tendency to jump to the right and still a bit green, will appreciate a strong pace.
Arkle Novices’ Chase – Grade 1, 1m7f199y
Notebook Backed Antepost 8/1 EW
Notebook (158) has the best of the Irish Form in beating Cash Back (156) & Fakir Doudairies (156) in consecutive races. Was very keen before the off at the DRF and did incredibly well to win considering that. It emphasis the TT aspect in he is quirky and at Cheltenham you do not want horses to boil over hence the Head Gear record. Is the one to beat if keeping head together.
Cash Back Backed Antepost 14/1 EW
Cash Back (156) really put it up to Notebook at the DRF, must be said surprised at the price of 7/1 great EW price, there is in the question over Temperament with the Hood, possibly wouldn’t want it too heavy, has a good chance if not boiling over.
Esprit Du Large Backed Antepost 25/1 EW
Esprit Du Large (153) looked very good at Sandown and has clearly been kept for this, hopefully, that will not backfire. Strong form lines with Global Citizen, Nube Negra & Mister Fisher, has a solid EW chance.
Ultima Handicap Chase - Grade 3, 3m1f
Mister Malarkey Backed Antepost 14/1 EW (18.5 Win & 3.75 - 4 Places, 3.0 - 5 Places)
Mister Malarkey (151) of the ones at the head of the market fits the profile perfectly and with this being his only entry at 14/1, you would have to take a chance on him EW. Ran a distant 4th in the RSA last year but the 3 at the front of that race were exceptional. His only run at Cheltenham was poor, so there is a little bump in the form.
Champion Hurdle – Grade 1, 2m87y
Sharjah Backed Antepost 12/1 EW
Sharjah (162) is the highest rated in the race but does blow hot and cold, if it goes right for him, you would give him a big chance, but course form is poor and all his wins have happened before Christmas, he is a big price so there is value EW for sure.
Cilaos Emery 6/1 William Hill EW (4 Places) (Taken 8.8 on Exchange & 2.46 - 4 Places)
Cilaos Emery (158) Could be a masterstroke from Mullins, beat Darasso easily in the Red Mills, would need to jump better. Looking at potential ground conditions, he is the horse that will appreciate softer conditions of the ones that will turn up.
Cornerstone Lad 33/1 William Hill (4 Places) (Taken 30.0 on Exchange & 5.3 - 4 Places)
Cornerstone Lad (159) Won the Fighting Fifth In November, beating a decent field was a close 3rd behind Ballyandy and Pentland hills at Haydock LTO, he did make the running in very tough conditions and did rally at the finish. Could be a pace angle and at bigger prices if you can pick up extra places
Mares Hurdle – Grade 1, 2m3f200y
Stormy Ireland 11/1 EW (Taken 18.5 & 2.28 - 3 Places)
Stormy Ireland (153) on collateral form with Elfile, through Honeysuckle both, beat Elfile by 5 1/2 lengths and is the horse that is currently overpriced. Elfile franked that form nicely LTO. Stormy Ireland has progressed this year a lot and that has shown in the increased distances in beating Black Tears, who also has franked the form. There will be the slight question mark in seeing out the trip at Cheltenham, but Willie seems to have got her improving and I would rather take Stormy Ireland at bigger prices than back Benie Des Dieux & Honeysuckle.
Benie Des Dieux is in all my Banker multi bets.
Northern Trust Novices Handicap Chase – Listed, 2m4f
Imperial Aura Backed Antepost 8/1 EW
Imperial Aura (143) ran a gallant second at Cheltenham in January behind Simply the Betts (149) in a race that has produced 3 winners of this race. Has decent course form at Cheltenham, my one concern would be the that Imperial Aura has not run in a big field handicap.
Hold The Note 8/1 EW (Taken 9.0 & 2.8 - 4 Places & 2.24 - 5 Places)
Hold The Note (145) got a significant increase from 133 to 145 in ORs, due to the 2nd to Two For Gold LTO, I think that is a bit high and could be weighted out of this, but willing to take a chance EW.
National Hunt Chase Amateur Riders’ Novices' Chase – Grade 2, 3m5f201y
Carefully Selected Backed Antepost 7/2
Carefully Selected (152) will be ridden by Patrick Mullins, clearly has a huge chance in this, aimed at the race. Has strong form in the book, beat Forza Milan (138) by 4 lengths last time out. Prior to that gave a severe beating to City Island & Dallas Des Pictons (135). He will need to improve on his jumping. With Champagne Classic an NR and Copperhead almost certain to run in the RSA, 7/2 looks a big price.
Springfield Fox Backed Antepost 33/1 EW
Lastly Springfield Fox (142) Only entry, been in decent form and at a big Price I can see him hitting the frame or the extra places.
